The Right Tape For The Right Job

Adhesive Tapes are used in numerous applications with new discoveries globally and across different industries. The advances in adhesive technology are growing each year and are projected to grow from $60.04 Billion in 2020 to $79.9 Billion in 2025 at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 5.7%.

Let’s have a brief comparison among major tape types and their uses.

1- Duct Tape/Cloth Tape: Heavy Duty, strong, flexible and versatile-Duct Tapes are all-purpose waterproof tapes specifically used for book binding, pipe protection and wrapping

2- Masking Tape: The giant in the automobile industry-Masking Tapes are lightweight, easy to tear and are used in painting projects. Its specialty is to prevent smudge and smear, leaving no residue behind.

3- Packaging Tape: For packaging, industrial use and bundling, these are the most common tapes used globally and can be used in different colors.

4- Stationery Tape: An office master, stationery tapes are commonly used to do paper projects, fix torn paper, arts and crafts and in offices.

5- Electrical Tape: Also known as the Insulation tape or PVC Tape, these are used to fasten or cover electrical wires. Commonly available in red and black, these prevent heat conduction due to the plastic used in them and hence are safer for electrical wires.

6- Warning Tapes: Warning or Caution Tapes are used to restrict a specific area, place or thing for health and safety reasons. Differentially printed, these are used to pack fragile objects with warning logos or phrases. These are made to emit light sometimes to recognize the warning signs at night.

7- Double-Sided tape: Also called Flooring or Tape, these have adhesive coated on both sides and can be used to anything that needs a tape with sticking to both sides. Used in carpeting floors, splicing and mounting, these are different from mounting tapes, where the backing is foamic and its removal leaves residue.

Summing it up, there are a variety of tapes for different purposes. One may not get the desired results by using a tape for a job that is not fit for it. Hence, it is important to have the basic know-how about different tapes and their uses so we can use the right tape for the right job.
